There always has to be a First Posting – so here it is!

After months of planning, and many weeks of very intensive work, I am finally glad to reveal and introduce 18%GREY | A Street Photography Magazine!

18%GREY strives to promote the art of Street Photography, in all its different forms. Apart from the obvious "purist" form, we want to also feature some of the world's most brilliant photographers who work in Street Portraiture-, Documentary-, Urban Landscape and Travel Photography, to name a few. We will also be keeping our eyes open for creative "fine art" street projects, which inspire to look at our urban environments in a different way.

We intend to launch the first issue of 18%GREY in a few weeks from now. In the meantime, why not befriend our website / blog here, and circle us at 18%GREY on Google+ to be kept informed!

We are looking to connect with as many photographers possible out there, whether well-known or still lurking under the surface, regardless of whether you use that camera with a red dot, or your mobile phone to make your art. The only discrimination we want to be guilty of, is that the quality of an image, or a collection, must stand out from the crowd. If you are an interested photographer, please circle us on G+, or introduce yourself on our blog. We will try our best to have a look, and consider your work for a feature.

18%GREY will be made available as either a digital download and/or a high quality print format that will be shipped to your doorstep. We are partnering with an online company that specialises in this kind of thing and more details will accompany the launch of Issue 1. The digital version is optimised to also display just perfectly on your tablet computer of choice. Here is a sample of what the cover design will look like (don't worry; I don't intend to promote my own images in 18%GREY - just a draft sample).

I thank everybody in advance for your support! There are still a few knobs to turn, keyboards to be punched, and some self-mumbled expletives to be uttered before everything will be as good as it can get, but if you want to share some questions, opinions or advice, feel free to leave your comments. You could be sprouting an interesting subject for discussion on our blog or G+.
Best regards - Michiel de Lange

  5. Hi Michiel,
Just discovered your work on RedBubble... love what I see there and on your website. I've always loved street photography, but have mostly done landscape work myself. Lately I'm feeling more drawn to the street, and I'll be watching 18%grey closely for inspiration.
Wishing you every success in your new endeavour.
